Jamie Manning

Manning tack repairMy love of all things “horse” goes back to the earliest memories of my youth.  At the age of two I was bitten by a NYC police horse while offering him a hot dog. I grew up with “Roy Rogers” and “Gunsmoke” and I wanted to be what I saw on the screen.  I spent hours riding at the three stables on Pelham Parkway in the Bronx --- Pelham Bit, CY's, and Park Stable.

In the 1960's you were not required to wear a helmet, you could go out riding by yourself, and for $3 you could be a cowgirl for an hour or so or until a "posse" was sent looking for you. In the summer I would go to "Freedomland" in the Bronx and ride the "Stagecoach" attraction all day. At "Playland" in Rye I'd ride the ponies all day. When I was old enough to drive I'd travel to Nyack and wrangle horses at the local barn.

In the 1970's and 80's I worked from my home shop in Pelham Manor re-upholstering sofas and chairs using various textiles and leathers. I worked at "Eye of the Needle" in Larchmont; there I would re-upholster using needlepoint and tapestries. I also repaired and restored antique and vintage needlepoints, tapestry and leather.

In the 1990's my husband, myself and our horses moved to Putnam County. There I started working in the luxury retail business selling fine jewelry for Neiman Marcus, Saks 5th Ave, Wilson and Son Jewelers, in Mt Kisco, NY. Upon concluding my retail career I decided to do what I have always loved. Using all of my textile knowledge, my knowledge of the luxury retail market and my love of horses I made the transition to saddle repair and restoration.

In early 2013 I started on two new adventures. First, with the guidance of Alex and Ralph, owners of Cobblers Corner in Mt. Kisco, NY I developed the skills I need for boot repairs.

In addition I became part of the Smith-Worthington Saddlery team and I sell Smith-Worthington exclusively. Smith-Worthington of Hartford, Ct. has over 220 years of saddle making history. I believe in the superior craftsmanship and the personal touch that go into the creation of a Smith-Worthington saddle.

I understand the value of keeping your saddle and equipment in good repair and condition. And I truly understand the emotional attachment my clients have with the "first saddle," the "first bridle," the "halter" with the nameplate of a "special horse" or the "gift" they received from their best friend. I will use all of my talent to repair and restore your "keepsake" back to its original condition. If the repair is important to you, it’s important to me, no matter how big or small.
That is my promise to my clients.

I have known Jamie for the past 6 years and it did not take me any time at all to notice how thorough and organized she was in the care of her horses. I then noticed that it did not stop there, so, obviously when I learned of Jamie doing saddlery/leather repair I did not hesitate to call her when we needed a special leather halter fixed, a zipper in riding boots repaired and a custom saddle altered.
No regrets!!! Everything came back better than it was originally. When I sent my items to Jamie, it was once and done. I have and would recommend her work to anyone as she is swift, thorough and professional! Thanks Jamie! Diane Weaver

Jamie has proven to be an asset to our business and is very capable of altering a boot, patching the calf of a boot and conveying any other repair concerns that her clients might have.
